How to improve team attitude and culture. 

Yes, you read it right. 

Today I am going to tell you some most important things to do in order to make your team a winning and champion team. 

So let's get started. 


The coach needs all three things to improve team attitude & culture. 

Those three things are

 1) getting players to buy into the system, 

2) create an atmosphere of acceptance 

3) and establish an expectation to work hard.



Getting players to buy into the coach's system can be a delicate process when it comes to college-level athletics. This may be the case as players come from across the country and have been told about their entire lives by different coaches. 


We will use cricket as an example. Today, most cricket players are products of individual school coaches, club or academy coaches or college coaches and these coaches believe that their style is the best style. 

These players buy into the philosophy of these coaches because it got them to the college level. Now, college coaches want to change something about a player and are hesitant to change players because their college coach's views are not the same as their school coach or academy coach being older. 


In order for coaches to buy their players they have to understand the players why they have to do the way the system operates. 

Coaches need to have a meeting with the players and convince them that we do these exercises because it assists the "X" and then the "X" will help us become better players. 

If players do not understand why they are doing what they are doing, then they have no chance to buy what the coach believes. 

Another thing coaches need is to show successful results to their players because of the system they run.

 They should show successful stats of current players and videos of older players who played for them. 

For new coaches, they should show statistics and videos of teams that run similar systems to implement the new system. 

My head coach at Payyade sports club has a meeting at the beginning of each year and tells us what new drills we are doing, what each drill helps. 

This helps our players trust all coaches and it instills a sense of trust among the players that everyone is on the page working towards the same goal.


Accepting the environment is important for a player's learning and development. 
A player who feels threatened and insignificant is more likely to fail than to succeed.

 In a safe and accepted environment a player will be open to new ideas and overcome failure quickly because they know that if they fail to try, they will not be punished, but praised for attempting . 

One way to create a confessional environment is by being a supportive leader rather than an achievement oriented leader. 
A leader who emphasizes results rather than process can create unnecessary pressure on players.

 Cricket is a sport where failure is much more than success. A coach who always wants victory in every match will loose his players more and more each game. 

Because, 

This will stress players in playing conditions because the players know that if they did not get victory  they will be punished or shouted at them. 

A coach who wants from his players to play and do their best whether they win or loose, will make players feel more comfortable in the nervous situation. 

The process is more valuable in cricket than the results.


Establishing a hardworking environment is critical to a high-performing team and culture. 

Cricket  is not called a power game, but a clever game. There may be some truth to this, but to play at a very high level, strength is very important. 

The weight room is an important place for a cricket player to work hard, but it is a very easy place for a player to be lazy and not to be taken seriously. 

Ensuring that your players are going 100 percent in the weight room is essential to establish a hardworking environment. Coaches need to find ways to motivate their players in one way or another. 


The coach can do this by setting goals for each player every two weeks
An example of this would be to test their squat max at the beginning of the season and then test their squat max at the end of the season to ensure that they have regained power.

 If his team does not improve, there will be punishment for the player. If the hard-working environment is set in the weight room, it will also move into the cricket field.

 Players will feel a lot of investment in the process of going just 50 percent on the field. To create an environment of hard work, another thing is to ensure that the game is played correctly. It involves players in and out of the field. This involves players running 100 percent on ground, whether for sure hits or for sure outs, and will be punished when players do not follow these simple rules. This will create a hard-hitting mindset that will aid the culture.
